Bishop Dionisiy (Liakhovych) takes part in the opening of the ecumenical exhibition of the Ukrainian icon in Ancona
Most Rev. Dionisiy (Liakhovych), Metropolitan Volodymyr (Sabodan) and delegates of the Ecumenical Commission from the Conference of Bishops of Italy opened the exhibition Golden Age of the Ukrainian Icon.
On March 2, 2010, in the Italian town Ancona in the exhibition room of Mole Vanvitelliana took place the opening of the exhibition Golden Age of the Ukrainian Icon of the XVI-XVIII Centuries. At the exhibition were presented 65 pieces of art – 40 icons, liturgical items, and church vestments – from the funds of the Kyiv Cave Preserve and the Andrey Sheptytsky National Museum in Lviv.
As reports Radio Vatican, the exhibition is organized as part of the preparation for the 25th National Eucharistic Congress which will be held in this town in September of next year.
The curators of the exhibition are Serhiy Krolevets, director general of the Kyiv Cave Historical-Cultural Preserve, and Giovanni Morello, president of the Foundation for the Artistic Patrimony and Activity of the Church, which is part of the Pontifical Commission for the Cultural Heritage of the Church. Among the organizers are the organizational committee of the 25th National Eucharistic Congress in Italy and the Embassy of Ukraine of the Apostolic Capital.
The West also has an ecumenical character. In the celebrations for the opening of the exhibition took part representatives of different Churches: the head of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Moscow Patriarchate Metropolitan Volodymyr (Sabodan) accompanied by the Bishop of Pereyaslav-Khmelnytskyi Oleksandr (Drabynko), the Apostolic Visitor for Greek Catholic Ukrainians in Italy and Spain Reverend Bishop Dionisiy (Lyakhovych), and delegates of the Ecumenical Commission from the Conference of Bishops of Italy, which on this day completed its three-day congress on «Orthodoxy in Italy: new pastoral challenges and new spiritual meetings.»
The following persons spoke at the solemn ceremony for the opening of the exhibition: Reverend Eduardo Menikelli, Archbishop of Ancona-Ozimo, Mrs. Tetyana Izhevska, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Ukraine of the Apostolic Capital and Sovereign Maltese Order, city officials, and the curators of the exhibition Serhiy Krolevets and Dzhovanni Morello.
